Emmanuel Acchiardi
Emmanuel Acchiardi – DHUP – Plenary 1 Influence of public policy
Emmanuel ACCHIARDI est Architecte Urbaniste en Chef de l’Etat (AUCE), il a exercé plusieurs postes au sein des services déconcentrés du ministère de l’environnement, de l’énergie et de la mer dans les domaines de compétence de l’aménagement du territoire, du bâtiment, des déplacements ou de l’environnement.
Il a été détaché à l’ADEME de 2011 à 2016 et a occupé le poste de Directeur adjoint à la direction villes et territoires durables, sur des sujets de performance énergétique et environnementale des bâtiments et des transports et de lutte contre les nuisances sonores (bruit, pollution, de l’air et des sols). Depuis le 1er mars 2016, il est sous-directeur de la qualité du développement durable dans la construction à la Direction de l’Habitat, de l’Urbanisme et des Paysages (DHUP)

La sous-direction QC est chargée d’élaborer, animer et mettre en œuvre les politiques de la qualité de la construction et de la rénovation d’abord dans leur dimension législative et réglementaire mais également économique, partenariale et territoriale. La mobilisation des acteurs de la construction, le soutien à la relance et à l’innovation, sur l’ensemble de la chaîne de l’acte de construire, du produit à l’ouvrage font également partie des missions de la sous-direction.

Simon Adnet a intégré l’équipe de Nordic Structures en 2013 à titre de chargé d’affaires. Ingénieur de formation, il œuvre dans le domaine des structures de bois d’ingénierie depuis 8 ans.
Simon met à profit son expérience pour accompagner les clients et les professionnels dès la phase de développement, dans le but de proposer des solutions techniques et économiques optimales tout en répondant aux besoins et contraintes de chaque projet.

Johan Åhlén  -  Moelven T
Johan Åhlén – Moelven Töreboda AB – Plenary 2 Science and technology
I have a degree in automation engineering and started my career in product development within the Swedish automotive and white goods industry. I joined Moelven Töreboda (world oldest glulam producer) in 2008 as responsible for project sales and engineering. I was responsible for the market launch of our post and beam system « trä8″ that was launched in 2009. Since then we have developed and fine tuned the concept into a competitive wood based alternative to traditional steel and concrete systems. Trä8 will be the base for the iconic project Mjöstårnet.

Nicolas Balanant

Diplômé de l’Ecole Centrale de Lyon en 2003, Nicolas Balanant intègre le bureau d’études acoustique Peutz & Associés où il occupera un poste de chef de projets. Après 7 années d’expérience, il rejoint la Direction Etudes et Recherches de CERQUAL en tant que Responsable de l’activité Acoustique.
Nicolas Balanant anime le Groupe d’Experts Acoustique (GEA) de QUALITEL, participe à la Commission Technique du Conseil National du Bruit, et il est également Président du Comité d’Evaluation des sous-couches acoustiques minces dans le cadre de la certification QB.
Nicolas Balanant a participé en tant que chef de projet pour QUALITEL au projet Acoubois, en collaboration avec le FCBA et CSTB. Ce programme portant sur l’acoustique des constructions à ossatures bois a été primé en 2016 par un décibel d’or dans la catégorie Recherche.
Ses principales missions chez CERQUAL sont :
– Réalisation d’études et recherches en acoustique (construction bois, basses fréquences, rénovation, etc.)
– Développement des référentiels de certification concernant les aspects acoustiques
– Assistance technique au réseau d’évaluateur

Delphine Bard
Delphine Bard, Acoustic Workshop
Delphine Bard is a researcher and associate professor at Engineering Acoustics, Lund University in Sweden. She is responsible for the acoustic research group in Lund, which she has been building up over the past 8-10 years, with strong focus on timber structures and modelling with regard to Finite Element Method (FEM). The group has a full setup of laboratories for building acoustic research and for measurements, available for acoustic testing and development for industrial applications / products. Apart from that, she is teaching acoustics to students and running and / or participating in a number of projects both financed through the industry, national funding institutions and European funding. Delphine is also working part time within the global material company group, Saint-Gobain as an expert within acoustics providing knowledge and support mainly for the Nordic market.

Jacques Bouillot

De formation Ingénieur, commerciale et environnementale, c’est sous le prisme de l’entrepreneur général que Jacques développe le bois au sein de son groupe, en tant que directeur de la filière sèche. « Le bon matériau au bon endroit ” est sa devise. Il reste convaincu que, lorsque le bois monte en hauteur, les défis à relever dépassent très largement le cadre des calculs de structure pour se déplacer vers les sujets de design acoustique, du feu, de l’humidité, des façades, de la logistique et des interfaces en général, sans perdre de vu l’optimum qualité-prix.

Andy Buchanan
Andy Buchanan – University of Christchurch – Seismic workshop
Dr Andy Buchanan is a structural engineer with special interests in timber engineering, fire safety and earthquake engineering. He is a Principal in PTL Structural Timber Consultants, also Professor Emeritus in Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury, both in Christchurch, New Zealand. His main research interests are structural design, fire safety and seismic performance of multi-storey post-tensioned timber buildings. His current research is supporting the construction of innovative timber buildings in Australia and New Zealand, including the rebuild of Christchurch after recent devastating earthquakes.
He is the author of Structural Design for Fire Safety (John Wiley & Sons, 2007) and the New Zealand Timber Design Guide ( 2007). He is past President of the New Zealand Timber Design Society, and until recently the Research Director of the Structural Timber Innovation Company Ltd. He was made a Distinguished Fellow of IPENZ (the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand) in 2011.

Ario Ceccotti
Ario Ceccotti – University of Venice – Seismic workshop
Ario Ceccotti, D. Sc. in civil Engineering at University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum Saecularia Nona. Researcher at the University of Florence, faculty of Engineering, he focused his work on wood construction structural performance, pioneering this field in his home country, Italy, since early 80’s. Professor at the University of Venice, faculty of Architecture, he was appointed director of IVALSA-CNR Institute – up to his retirement in 2013 – and Chairman of 2010 World Conference of Timber Engineering.
Member of the drafting panel of Eurocode 5 and Eurocode 8, ENV versions, prof. Ceccotti has also been visiting professor at EPFL, Lausanne and at UBC, Vancouver. RILEM Fellow and IHF award, as visiting scientist at Forintek Laboratory in Canada, Dr Ceccotti initiated the way for a better understanding basics of timber construction seismic behavior and design that has culminated with the outstanding SOFIE test on a seven storey cross-lam building on the shaking table of NIED Kobe Laboratory in Japan in year 2007.
Prof. Ceccotti authored more than 180 papers and three books on Timber Engineering mostly.

Jennifer Cover  -  Wood Products Council
Jennifer Cover – Wood Products Council – Plenary 3 Economic development potential for construction stakeholders
Jennifer Cover is the President and CEO of WoodWorks – Wood Products Council, a U.S. national nonprofit program providing technical support as well as education and resources related to the code-compliant design of non-residential and multi-family wood buildings. WoodWorks field teams have expertise in a wide range of building types-from schools and mid-rise/multi-family, to commercial and public and well as tall wood buildings. The objective of the program is to make it easier to design, engineer and construct wood buildings that deliver high performance for less cost than alternative materials. WoodWorks is a partner with the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Softwood Lumber Board and British Columbia’s Forestry Innovation Investment Program to promote and educate on innovative wood solutions that will increase the use of wood products, thereby improving the economic health of rural communities as well as the health of U.S. forestland. Ms. Cover has been with the WoodWorks program since it was established nine years ago and took on the role of leading the program four years ago. She is a California licensed professional engineer and started her career in structural design and construction management. She has taught Timber Design at the University of California, San Diego for eight years and also worked for APA – The Engineered Wood Association. Her experience includes business development, market analysis, project management and structural design, all with an emphasis on wood construction. Ms. Cover has a MS in Civil Engineering (emphasis in Construction Management) from the University of California, Berkeley and a BS in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Samuel Cuerrier Auclair
Samuel Cuerrier Auclair, P.Eng., M. Sc. – FPInnovations Acoustic workshop
Samuel completed his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering at Laval University in 2015 on the study of wood-concrete floors, where he was honoured for his master’s thesis and has also summited a patent on an innovative connector for wood-concrete floors. He now works as a researcher on the structural and serviceability performance of wooden buildings at FPInnovations, where his main research topics are on design methods of wood-concrete floors, CLT shear walls, floor vibration and in-situ tests on acoustic and vibrational performance of high- rise buildings. He is the author of several technical publications and research reports on the structural and serviceability performances of wooden buildings.

Christian Dagenais_FPInnovations
Christian Dagenais – FPInnovations – Fire saferty workshop
Christian works as a senior scientist at FPInnovations where his main research topics are structural fire performance of wood structures, performance-based design, fire modeling and fire safety engineering. He has been involved in various performance-based fire designs for allowing wood construction in buildings otherwise required to be of noncombustible construction. He’s author of various technical publications and test reports related to performance of wood components and buildings in fire. Furthermore, he actively participates to Codes & Standards technical committees, such as those related to fire testing, fire safety engineering and engineering design in wood from ULC, ASTM and CSA standards. He also represents Canada on ISO TC92/SC4, responsible for developing international standards on fire safety engineering. Lastly, he participates in many overseas normalization activities related to Building and Fire Codes, namely with USA, Australia, China and Japan. Christian is a member of OIQ, CSCE and SFPE.

Mr Doehring holds degrees in engineering (BA) and industrial engineering (FH).
Mr Carsten Doehring has been Director General/CEO of Ilim Timber’s German sites in Landsberg am Lech and Wismar since 2010.
Headquartered in St. Petersburg and boasting a total of 3,000 employees, the Ilim Timber Group is one of the world’s leading producers of sawn timber and plywood. It has sites in Ust-Ilimsk and Bratsk (Russia) as well as Wismar and Landsberg am Lech (Germany).
Carsten Doehring worked in Asia for ten years, where he was responsible for the production sites of two German companies of good standing: he served as Deputy General Manager at Groz-Beckert (China) for five years and as Director of Manufacturing at Schaefer Systems International (Malaysia) for a further five years. He was subsequently appointed a member of the management team at the Klausner Group, assuming responsibility for production and technology at five sites in Germany.
Since 2012, Mr Doehring has been a member of the board of the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry (EOS) based in Brussels. In 2015, he was moreover elected president of the German Association of the Sawmilling and Timber Industry (DeSH) based in Berlin.

Bradford K. Douglas  -  American Wood Council

Bradford Douglas is Vice President of Engineering for the American Wood Council, the voice of North American wood products manufacturing, which represents over 75 percent of an industry that employs over 400,000 men and women in the United States. With more than 33 years of experience in the wood products industry, he directs a program aimed at developing state-of-the-art engineering data, technology, and standards on structural wood products, systems and assemblies for use by design professionals and building officials that assure safe and efficient wood-based designs. He serves on several standards development committees of organizations, including ASTM, American Society of Civil Engineers, U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Building Seismic Safety Council, and the International Code Council, addressing proper design of wood buildings for exposure to fire and structural loading including high wind and seismic loads. Mr. Douglas was the 2015 recipient of the Award of Merit and title of fellow from ASTM International Committee D07 on Wood, which is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.

Heinz Ferk  -  Université de Graz

Heinz Ferk studied civil engineering at Graz University of Technology, Austria and focused on building physics and construction in the following years. 1995 he started his own engineering office and besides other projects and research he accompanied from the very beginning the development of wood based building in building acoustics, physics and construction in Austria. So he has more than 20 years of acoustic and building physics related experience of wood based building in praxis and research. Since 1999 he is head of the building physics laboratory at Graz University of Technology, where he established 2004 an European notified, accredited testing Laboratory. He is lecturer for building physics and building pathology and is engaged with his expert team in building science and building physics research, testing and simulation in building acoustics, room acoustics, hygrothermal and mechanical physics.

Massimo Fragiacomo
Massimo Fragiacomo – Université de l’Aquila – Seismic workshop
Massimo Fragiacomo is Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil, Construction-Architectural & Environmental Engineering of University of L’Aquila, Italy since September 2015. Previous positions held include eight years as an Associate Professor at the University of Sassari, Italy, and three years as Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
He is an author of 303 papers, 101 of which published on peer reviewed international journals, with h-index of 26, 21 and 19 according to the Google Scholar, Scopus e Web of Science data base, respectively. He is recognized as one of the world experts on Timber Engineering, with special emphasis on Earthquake Resistance and Timber-Concrete Composite Structures.
He has been Principal Investigator in many research projects funded by regional, national and international Public and Private Agencies for a total amount of 1 270 000 €. For his research activity he has received several prizes including the Frederick Palmer Prize offered by the Institution of Civil Engineers – UK in 2012.
He is a member of the Working Groups CEN/TC250/SC5 « Eurocode 5: Design of Timber Structures” and CEN/TC250/SC8 « Eurocode 8: Design of structures for earthquake resistance” and the corresponding Italian mirror committees, as well as chairman of Working Group 3 « Timber Structures” within CEN/TC250/SC8.

Jean-Marie Gaillard
Jean-Marie Gaillard – FCBA – Fire safety workshop
Jean Marie Gaillard, docteur en sciences du bois, est actuellement l’expert feu au sein de l’Institut FCBA. Au début de sa carrière, il a développé les panneaux à base de bois ignifuge chez un fabricant européen de différents panneaux MDF, OSB n Contreplaqué.
Depuis 1999, il développe le laboratoire de réaction au feu de l’institut FCBA, ce qui a permis d’obtenir l’agrément du laboratoire auprès des ministères compétents.
En 2011, il a été le chef de projet de l’étude comportement en réaction au feu des bois massif et des panneaux à base de bois. Ces études ont permis d’alimenter les CWFT (classification whitout further testing), de nombreux produits à base de bois.
Entre 2011 et 2016 , il a été le chef de projet de l’étude résistance au feu des parois à base de bois et a piloté 24 essais de résistance au feu en configuration utilisation mur ou plancher. Cette étude a permis de donner des solutions techniques performantes conventionnelles de niveau REI 15 0 REI 90.
Entre 2012 et 2017, il a été le chef de projet « propagation feu des façade bois ” .
Il a rédigé trois guides de vulgarisation sur l’application des panneaux à base de bois et sur la règlementation incendie.

Simon Gallagher  -  Nordic Structures

Simon Gallagher is a structural engineer and project manager at Nordic Structures, the design office for Chantier Chibougamau. As one of the leading producers of engineered wood products in North America, Chantier Chibougamau is continuously pushing the boundaries of wood construction. In his role at Nordic Structures, Simon Gallagher has worked on multi storied residential projects, sports complexes, and institutional and educational buildings. Most notably, he was involved with the design of the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex Soccer Stadium in Montreal and was the design engineer and project manager for Origine, a 13 storey condominium building in Quebec City. He holds a Bachelor Engineering in civil engineering from McGill University and a Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from Ecole polytechnique de Montréal.

Nicolas Gentner  -  Shilliger

Nicolas Gentner est Ingénieur chez Schilliger Holz AG et Schilliger Bois SAS depuis 2014. Il pratique diverses activités d’ingénierie pour shilliger en France et en Suisse : conseils techniques d’avant-projet, dimensionnement, conception, accompagnement des clients sur chantier. Il assure le suivi des certifications des produits de construction (marquages CE, avis technique). Nicolas est aussi impliqué dans le suivi de différents projets de recherche soutenus par l’entreprise, en partenariat avec d’autres industriels, laboratoires et universités et il représente l’entreprise au sein d’associations d’industriels français (CLT France, ADIVBois).

Michael Green  -  MGA
Michael Green – MGA – Plenary 3 Economic development potential for construction stakeholders
Michael Green is an architect known for his research, leadership, and advocacy in promoting the use of wood in the built environment. He lectures internationally on the subject, including his 2013 TED talk on « Why We Should Build Wooden Skyscrapers,” which has been viewed over a million times. Michael founded his architecture firm MGA and his not for profit school DBR | Design Build Research to focus on progressive architecture, research, education, and innovation. Based in Vancouver, BC, Michael and his team strive to contribute to meaningful and sustainable change in building through innovation in construction sciences and design. Michael has been honoured with North America’s most prestigious awards, including 2 Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Innovation Awards and 3 Governor General’s Medals (the highest awards for a Canadian architect), along with numerous North American Wood Design Awards and International Interior Design Awards. In 2014, Michael received an honourary doctorate degree from the University of Northern British Columbia

Catherine Guigou-Carter

Catherine Guigou-Carter obtained an engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1989 (specialized in Acoustics and Vibration) at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France; in 1992 she obtained a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA.
She joined in 1997 as a R&D engineer the Scientific and Technical Center for Building (CSTB), a public organization for innovation in building. She has since been working in the Building Acoustics and Vibration Group on prediction models development for building elements in order to improve product performances with respect to acoustics. She is member of French, European and ISO standardization groups.

Klas Hagberg  -  WSP Sweden AB
Klas Hagberg – WSP Sweden AB – Acoustic Workshop
Klas Hagberg is a consultant, project manager and a researcher focusing on acoustics and vibrations in wooden structures. He has been active in the field of building acoustics for 25 years and during the last 10 years he has been coordinating three big research projects, one Swedish national project « AkuLite” and two European projects « AcuWood” and « Silent Timber Build” within the organization WoodWidsdomNet. The main content of the two first projects has been to develop objective evaluation methods for sound insulation in dwellings adapted to light weight structures. The latest project Silent Timber Built (www.silent-timber-build.com) finishing in July 2017, is aimed to develop models / methods to predict sound insulation in wooden structures. To predict sound insulation considering modern evaluation of sound insulation will be important for future development of timber structures.

Stéphane Hameury
Stéphane Hameury – Fire safety workshop
Stéphane Hameury holds a PhD in Building Physics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden and a mechanical engineering degree from the French engineering school ENSAM.
During his PhD degree, he has been actively involved in the Annex 41- Whole Building Heat, Air and Moisture Response at the International Energy Agency.
Since 2007, he works at CSTB in France and leads the support of public authorities and stakeholders in the sustainable development of wooden construction sector in France through innovation. Stéphane Hameury lectures wood science and fire safety in several Engineering schools in France (ENSTIB, Centrale Paris, ENPC).
Head of a Division at the Safety, Structure and Fire Department of CSTB, his team is involved in consultancies and research programs regarding topics ranging from performance based design, fire safety engineering, smoke extraction engineering, to problem and risk of soil stabilities and subsidence, as well as vulnerability of structures to earthquake and blast.
His current research topics are mainly oriented towards the structural performances of wood structures against fire and earthquake, fire safety engineering and fire safety of facades, where he actively participates to the organization of the international seminar for fire safety of facades co-organised by CSTB and RISE.
He is a member of a number of National and European Standardization Committees and the Technical Committee of ADIVBOIS.

Petri Heino  -  Ministry of the Environment of Finland
Petri Heino – Ministry of the Environment of Finland – Plenary 1 Influence of public policy
Mr. Petri Heino is a forester by profession; he studied the marketing of forest products at the University of Helsinki. After completing his education he started a long career in the promotion of Finnish wood construction, lobbying for organizations such as Puuinfo & Wood Focus and the Finnish Forest Industries Federation. He was also engaged in projects for the Nordic Timber Council.
Heino then worked as a Research Manager at the Kymenlaakso University of Applied sciences for 4 years. The focus of the R&D was on interior design solutions with wood. Restorative environment design principles were designed as a result of this work.
Heino is currently responsible for the national wood building program at the Ministry of the Environment of Finland.
His ongoing dialogue in business and social life with Finnish architects and other members of the building and construction ecosystem has enabled him to understand and firmly grasp the realities and possibilities of wood in the building sector.

Koichiro Hirata  -  Nice Holdings
Koichiro Hirata – Nice Holdings – Plenary 1 Influence of public policy on Wood Development
Koichiro Hirata is Chairman and CEO of the Nice Holdings, a Japanese wholesaler of construction materials and construction grade timber, as well as a manufacturer of wooden housing providing services ranging from design all the way to sales. Being able to trace its origin back more than 65 years, Nice Holdings was the first company to set up lumber auctions within the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, which proved invaluable for the rebuilding effort after the Second World War. At present Nice Holdings handles more than one million cubic tons of timber every year, spread across 16 different auctions throughout Japan, making it one of Japan’s leading timber market companies. Besides sales of construction materials, Nice Holdings has in recent years profiled itself as a growing house maker, specialized in supplying high quality earthquake resistant wooden housing both domestically and abroad. Wanting to do their part in combating both Global Warming and Japan’s aging society, Nice Holdings has, in cooperation with the city of Yokohama and the prestigious Keio University, developed the « Smart Wellness Home”. This revolutionary type of home utilizes the inherent abilities of wood, combined with modern technology, to be both eco-friendly and provide a healthy living environment for its residents.

Mr. Hirata himself has over 30 years of experience leading Nice Holdings and is an active member of several organizations within the wood industry, such as the Japan Wood Products Information and Research Center, the Wood and Housing Research Association and the Wooden Home Builders Association of Japan, working effortlessly to promote the many benefits of wood.

Kenji Hosaka
Kenji Hosaka – Housing and Architecture Bureau of the city of Yokohama – Plenary 1 Influence of public policy
Since 2016, Kenji Hosaka is responsible for the Planning Division, Housing and Architecture Bureau of the city of Yokohama. The city of Yokohama is known to be as « the ecological city” because of their positive actions for the environment. As a result of their efforts, the city of Yokohama was selected as the « Future Eco City” by the Japanese government in 2011.
Kenji Hosaka started his career in an architecture office before joining the city of Yokohama in 1987, where he used to be responsible for building permissions, maintenance of public properties, urban planning (including writing out earthquake resistant building policies) and promoting low-energy residential and non-residential buildings.

André Huot
André Huot – Nordic Structures – Plenary 2 Science and technology
André Huot est directeur développement des affaires au sein de Nordic Structures. Gestionnaire aguerri qui a développé une fine maitrise de tous les rouages du secteur du bâtiment. André Huot a consacré sa carrière en immobilier et dans l’industrie de la construction, que ce soit comme président ou gestionnaire de haut niveau, dans le secteur du design, du génie ou chez des développeurs. S’il a choisi Nordic en 2012, c’est qu’il estime que le bois massif permet de construire des bâtiments écoresponsables particulièrement performants, en utilisant une ressource polyvalente, compétitive, naturelle et renouvelable.
Appuyé par l’équipe technique de Nordic et celle de production à l’usine de Chibougamau, il a joué un rôle de premier plan dans la réalisation de nombreux projets phares, notamment Tanguay Trois-Rivières et IGA Boischatel dans le secteur commercial, en plus des projets multi-résidentiels de grande hauteur Arbora et Origine.

Toshiharu Ikaga

Dr. Toshiharu Ikaga is head of the System Design Engineering department and professor at Keio University in Tokyo. After graduating from Waseda University Engineering Department, he worked as the head of the Nikken Construction Group’s planning division, before becoming an assistant professor at Tokyo University and eventually moving on to his current position in 2006.
He specializes in urban and environmental engineering.
His current research focuses on the development of communities and housing that improve the « Health Lifespan” (the duration one can live healthy, without outside assistance) of its inhabitants, as well as having low carbon emission and earthquake resistant properties.
He is the co-author of such books as: « Promoting Intellectual Productivity through Architecture”, « Development of the Healthy House”, « Heat Strokes and how to Prevent Them” and « A Guide to Environmental Architecture”.
Dr. Ikaga is a member of the Japan Science Council and vice chairman of the Institute of Life Cycle Assessment Japan.

Bart Ingelaere
Bart Ingelaere, CSTC, Belgique – Acoustic workshop
Bart Ingelaere is Head of the Department of Acoustics, Energy and Climate. Since last year he is also Deputy General Director of the BBRI. He is equally presiding the Belgian standardizing committee in acoustics, the committee that is also fixing the requirements in Belgium.
In the last 6 years, his team has been working first on the holistic optimization of light weight timber frame constructions. Especially the acoustic optimization has resulted in an innovative way of building terraced houses and apartment constructions. Actually the BBRI is working on the optimization of CLT constructions. New (patented) solutions allow to eliminate totally the flanking transmission in CLT multifamily constructions.
Bart Ingelaere is actually also strongly involved in the implementation of BIM in Belgium. He is particularly interested in introducing acoustic calculations in BIM-technology. He is functioning as the Liaison Officer between CEN TC 126 Acoustics and CEN TC 442.

Robert Jones
Robert Jones – Canadian Forest Service of Natural Resources Canada – Plenary 1 Influence of public policy
Robert Jones is the Director of the Trade and International Affairs Division, Canadian Forest Service of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). NRCan is the Canadian federal government Department that promotes the sustainable development of Canada’s forests and the competitiveness of the Canadian forest sector. Robert is responsible for Canadian government programs targeted toward expanding the forest industry’s markets both domestically and offshore, promoting value-added capacity within the industry and maximizing forest sector innovation capacity to support the expansion of Canada’s forest trade. Robert is also responsible for the identification of strategies to help the Canadian forest industry address trade and non trade tariff barriers as well for programs designed to respond effectively to environmental-related trade barriers. Robert is a member of several forest industry advisory committees and is Canada’s representative on the Bureau of Alternates Committee of the North American Forestry Commission.

Robert Jones
Koji Kagiya – Building Research Institute – Fire safety Workshop
Koji Kagiya, Ph. D. is a Chief Research Engineer of Department of Fire Engineering, Building Research Institute. His career and experience on fire research in built environment extend over 20 years. He has been involved in mainly fire protection engineering projects, including the development of building regulations and standards on fire safety, promoting international collaboration and performance-based criteria. During the period he has conducted many fire tests such as full scale fire tests of a 3-storey school building.
He was a guest researcher of SP Wood Technology (currently known as RISE) in Stockholm, Sweden in 2014. Since 2015, he has been participating in COST Action FP1404 (Fire Safe Use of Bio-Based Building Products) as an invited expert. He is a secretary of Japanese national committee on ISO TC92 SC4 (Fire Safety Engineering) and TC21/SC11 (Smoke and heat control systems and components). He is a member of the board of directors of the Japan Association for Fire Science and Engineering.

Erol Karacabeyli
Erol Karacabeyli – FPInnovations – Plenary 2 Science and technology
Erol Karacabeyli is a Principal Scientist in the Building Systems Department at FPInnovations. Erol is a well-known influential member in wood building systems research field nationally and internationally, and he serves numerous codes and standards committees. Erol is the Chair of ISO Technical Committee on Timber Structures, and an Adjunct Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of BC. Erol made significant contributions in wood building systems field, and published his findings in over 200 publications. He is the co-editor of the US CLT Handbook and the Technical Guide for the Design and Construction of Tall Wood Buildings in Canada. Erol received numerous awards which include Life Achievement Awards in wood construction research in the USA and Canada.

Kengo Kuma

Kengo Kuma was born in 1954. He completed his master’s degree at the University of Tokyo in 1979. After studying at Columbia University as Visiting Scholar, he established Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990. In 2009, he was installed as Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, University of Tokyo.
Among Kuma’s major works are Kirosan Observatory (1995), Water/Glass (1995, received AIA Benedictus Award), Stage in Forest, Toyoma Center for Performance Arts (received 1997 Architectural Institute of Japan Annual Award), Bato-machi Hiroshige Museum (received The Murano Prize). Recent works include Nezu Museum (2009, Tokyo), Yusuhara Marche and Wooden Bridge Museum (2010), Asakusa Culture and Tourism Center (2012), Nagaoka City Hall Aore (2012), and Kabukiza (2013). Outside Japan, Besancon Music Center, FRAC Marseilles Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire, and China Academy of Arts’ Folk Art Museum have been completed recently, with lots of major projects being underway, including V&A at Dundee, UK.
Kuma is also a prolific writer and his books have been translated into English, Chinese and Korean, obtaining wide readership from around the world. The latest titles are Natural Architecture and Small Architecture, published from Architectural Association.

Shinri Kishishita

Shinri Kishishita is an architect with a special interest in using wood for creativity and inspiration.
The main theme of Shinri Kishishita’s projects is: creating comfortable living and working spaces with wood in both the interior and exterior design.
One of his most important projects which illustrates this theme is the « JST corporation head office” completed in 2013, in Osaka, Japan.
This project was awarded several prestigious prizes in addition to public recognition from both local and national government agencies, such as the Forestry Agency of Japan, for its ecological approach using wood for comfortable working spaces.
Another important pillar of his philosophy is « Connections”: connecting people to buildings and vice versa, connecting each floor, connecting inside and outside, connecting buildings and surroundings, connecting past and future, connecting generations.
He is also a part-time lecturer of the Osaka Institute of Technology.

Jean-Luc Kouyoumji

Jean-Luc Kouyoumji is a research engineer since 1997 at the Technological Institute FCBA. He has a Ph. D. in « Civil engineering and Building Sciences” of Savoie University. He was project manager or coordinator for over 30 R&D projects (both private and public) and has written over 25 papers for international congresses and scientific reviews on acoustics and building energy. His areas of expertise are: (1) Improvement and modeling of acoustic performances of wooden buildings and flanking transmissions; (2) Biosourced materials for energy-efficient buildings; (3) Technology transfer of and innovations in construction; (4) International cooperation between researchers, engineers, technical centers and construction companies. He has been Chairman of 12 sessions on acoustics lightweight constructions for the Internoise and ICA Acoustics Congresses. He has been vice-chair of the EU-COST Action FP0702 and TAIEX expert for MED Mediterranean countries. Co-Author of the « Cross Laminated Timber Handbook” for Canada and reviewer of the « Technical Guide for the Design and Construction of high-rise Wood Buildings in Canada” and for the CLT Handbook USA.

Florian Lagarde est chargé de projets au sein de Nordic Structures. Il est technicien en construction depuis 8 ans et agit à titre de chargé de projet depuis 4 ans. Il a suivi une formation technique en charpente de bois et obtenu une licence en ingénierie et qualité du bois. Il a débuté sa carrière sur chantier et en atelier au sein de la SATOB ou il a acquis une expertise terrain.
Depuis 2012, il travaille pour l’entreprise Nordic Structures, il assure la conception technique ainsi que la gestion de projet. Il a notamment mené à bien des projets d’envergure tel que le Stade de Soccer St-Michel et Arbora.

Etienne Lalonde

Etienne Lalonde joined the Canadian Wood Council in 1992. Since arriving at the CWC, he has successively and successfully held various positions within the organization. In 2000, he was named National Director of the Wood WORKS! Project – a Pan Canadian initiative whose objectives are to create a « Wood Culture” in Canada and to promote the use of wood products in commercial, industrial, mid-rise and institutional construction. In 2003, he was promoted to the position of Vice-president – Market Development; position that oversees all communication, marketing, technology transfer and educational programs of the CWC.

Before joining the Canadian Wood Council, Etienne worked for several years in the construction industry as senior project manager on large-scale construction projects – such as schools, airports, museums and industrial facilities. He holds an Executive MBA from McGill University, a diploma in Civil Engineering and a professional designation in project management

Laurent Lemagorou

Après un doctorat en Mécanique des matériaux et structures et une thèse sur les panneaux structuraux à base bois soutenue à l’Université de Bordeaux, il intègre l’unité Consultance Innovation Appui Technique (CIAT) du Pôle Construction de FCBA en 2002. Au sein de l’équipe « Structures ” , il y remplit des missions auprès des professionnels de la construction bois telles que l’appui technique, l’expertise et la formation dans le domaine du calcul des structures bois, ainsi que l’accompagnement au développement de solutions techniques innovantes. Il participe également aux projets de recherche sur les problématiques mécaniques et en assure la valorisation dans les instances normatives nationales et européennes. Membre actifs de plusieurs groupes de normalisation nationaux (P21-A, ) et européens (TC250, TC124, ), il est notamment l’un des représentants français dans les commissions et groupes de travail en charge de la rédaction des règles de calcul européennes Eurocodes pour les structures bois (TC250/SC5) et en situation de séisme (TC250/SC8/WG3).

Frank Mathis

APilote du Plan National pour les Industries du Bois et Président de l’Association pour le Développement des Immeubles à Vivre Bois, Frank Mathis est l’actuel dirigeant de la société alsacienne Mathis, fondée en 1875, et spécialisée dans la construction bois. Depuis 1999, Frank Mathis s’est attaché à renforcer l’entreprise familiale et à placer les hommes, la qualité et l’amélioration continue au centre de son projet d’entreprise. Une approche qu’il a également appliquée au projet « Immeuble à Vivre Bois ” , depuis son lancement en 2014, afin d’apporter la démonstration du potentiel que recèle la construction bois.
Frank Mathis est également engagé dans les instances professionnelles nationales de la filière bois et le pôle de compétitivité pour les bâtiments à énergie positive : Pôle Fibres Energivie. Il est depuis 2016 Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur au titre de son action à la tête du Plan National pour la Filière Bois et de son implication à la présidence de l’Association pour le Développement des Immeubles à Vivre Bois.

Eric is an Associate in KPFF’s Portland Oregon office. Having been largely shaped by his past work experiences in San Francisco and post-earthquake Christchurch, Eric is well positioned to bring the latest techniques of resilient seismic design to his projects. Eric has a broad knowledge of all building materials, including mass timber where he has been engaged to help guide the emerging CLT/mass timber industry standards in the United States. Applying these technical strengths, Eric has been directly involved with the design of several noteworthy built projects utilized CLT as a primary structural element. Eric is also the structural project manager for Framework, the West Coast winner of the U.S. Tall Wood Building Prize Competition. Once complete, Framework will be the tallest timber building in the United States and the tallest building utilizing a timber lateral system in North America.

Mitsumasa Midorikawa

Dr. Midorikawa is a President of the Building Research Institute (BRI), National Research and Development Agency in Japan. He was appointed as a successor of former President, Dr. Sakamoto from April 2017.
He is an expert and a researcher on Steel Structures and Response-Control Structures. He graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, School of Engineering in 1973, and earned a doctor’s degree in 1979.
After that, he was employed by then-BRI of Ministry of Construction in 1980.
In BRI, he served as a Head of the Seismic Engineering-related department etc. and retired on 2005.
In the same year, he had obtained a position as a Professor of Hokkaido University, Graduate School of Engineering and there he devoted to research activities and education of young researchers and experts.
He presented numerous research papers on earthquake response of steel structure and earthquake response with lifting up of column base, and these results have been reflected to building standards and codes, and also technical guidelines of government and Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ). He wrote books such as Recommendations for Stability Design of Steel Structures, and Recommended Provisions for Seismic Damping Systems Applied to Steel Structures (as a co-author). Moreover, he received The Minister of Education (MEXT) Award for Scientific and Technological Research Merits 2003, The Japan Society of Steel Construction Brilliant Thesis Award 2010, and The Prize of AIJ in 2012.

Koichiro Nakashima

Born in 1952, Nakashima joined the family-owned enterprise MEIKEN after graduating from Yokohama City University. Nakashima has promoted mass production of glued laminated timber, leading MEIKEN to develop into the top producer of GLT in Japan. At the same time, MEIKEN has also become famous for its advanced efforts in wood biomass energy utilisation. In recent years, Nakashima has devoted himself to cross laminated timber, himself establishing the Japan CLT association and launching the first mass production CLT factory in Japan.

Marjan Popovski_FPInnovations

Marjan is a Principal Scientist in the Advanced Building Systems Department of FPInnovations and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Wood Science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He is one of the leading researchers in the area of seismic performance of wood structures. He is an author of over 150 scientific publications, including chapters of the Technical Guide for the Design and Construction of Tall Wood Buildings in Canada, the Canadian and the US editions of the CLT Handbooks, and co-editor of the Canadian Wood-frame Construction Handbook. Marjan is active in the Canadian and international codes and standards arena. He is a member of the Canadian Technical Committee on Engineering Design in Wood, and various Canadian, US and ISO Subcommittees and Task Groups. He also served on the National Building Code of Canada Standing Committee on Earthquake Design from 2009 to 2014.

Marc-André Roy - Sotramont

Marc-André Roy est président et propriétaire de Sotramont, une entreprise familiale fondée il y a 49 ans à Montréal. Avec plus de 3 000 unités d’habitation, Sotramont est une société de développement immobilier et construction à la fine pointe de l’industrie à la réputation de maître constructeur haut de gamme dans la conception de quartiers innovateurs et de maisons habilement exécutées.
En 2012, le projet Place des Nations à Bois-Franc a été reconnu comme le premier bâtiment LEED Or au Québec (catégorie quatre ou-plus-étages) et en 2014, il a été reconnu comme ayant l’enveloppe de bâtiment la plus performante du monde par le US Green Building Council. En 2015, Sotramont innove encore en construisant deux projets de condos, de six à huit étages, dotés d’une structure en bois massif CLT (cross-laminated timber). L’un d’eux, comprenant 434 habitations réparties dans trois immeubles de huit étages, est en superficie, le plus gros chantier au monde en panneaux de bois massif lamellé-croisé. Depuis 2015, l’ensemble des projets immobiliers de Sotramont sont des réalisations LEED.
De 2009 à 2016, Marc-André Roy a été président du conseil d’administration de Qualité Habitation, le premier plan de garantie de maison neuve au Québec.
Il est aussi membre de l’association du Barreau du Québec et sert actuellement au sein de nombreuses associations liées à l’avancement et à la qualité de l’immobilier.

Hansueli Schmid  -  LIGNUM

Hansueli has received practical training as a joiner as well as an engineer in Wood Technology. He now acts as a technical advisor for Lignum, the organization which supports the Swiss forestry and timber industries. At Lignum, Hansueli has responsibilities related to durability, sustainability and acoustics. Since 2015, he developed the database Lignumdata for Lignum. He assumed these responsibilities following his extensive work in the Switzerland commercial market segment.
Earlier in his career, he worked for the Knauf AG brand line of drywall and fire protections systems for the wood construction market. While at Tavapan AG, he supplied the interior joinery and window industry, with composite panels like veneer products, acoustic panels and Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) to address decorative, thermal and acoustical needs.
He also has extensive project management experience from his work at the project operations center at Vitra AG, where he oversaw large orders of office systems from the offer to the delivery.
He wrote his thesis in Costa Rica for the swiss company Precious woods.

Takahiro Tsuchimoto  -  Building Research Institute

Takahiro Tsuchimoto, Ph. D. is a Chief Research Engineer, Division of Building Materials and Components, Building Research Institute, Japan. He is interested in and has conducted research on timber engineering and wood-based materials as structural member. His research fields are materials and structural engineering.
He studied and worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Forest Products of the Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Tokyo.
For the past 18 years, he worked alternatively at National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM), Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Building Research Institute.
He has developed expertise in structural engineering, material science, durability of wood houses and buildings, and building codes including structural regulations and quality standards of wood and wood-based material in the Building Standard Law of Japan.
He has also conducted a field survey on the damage to wood houses and buildings due to 10 past major earthquakes including a tsunami, initiatively. Based on these results, he has developed his expertise in them. Moreover, he has conducted many shaking table tests and static lateral load tests on full-sized wood houses, including 7 existing houses and 4 brand new 3-story wood houses which were collapsed, to collect data. Based on these results, he has developed expertise in collapsing limit deformation and safety limit of timber construction.

Arve Valso

Arve Valso for more than 30 years worked on research and development of fire retardant chemicals and systems for fire retardancy of wood and wood-based panels, including both impregnation and coating. He is a member of several national and international committees for standards development. Arve is working in Teknos as an international Technical Manager, Industrial Wood – Fire Retardant Paint.

Architecte diplômé de l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris dans l’atelier d’Eugène Beaudouin en 1970, Jean-Paul Viguier est également titulaire du Master of City Planning in Urban Design de la Graduate School of Design de Harvard. Cette entrée américaine l’engage à participer aux travaux de l’Agence urbaine de New York afin de remodeler le tissu urbain de Manhattan.

De retour en France, il obtient le premier Prix du jury pour le projet de concours de l’Opéra Bastille en 1983 et le premier prix ex aequo pour le projet Tête-Défense qui le conduisent à remporter des grands concours publics dont la requalification du site historique et écologique du Pont du Gard et la construction du Musée d’archéologie.

Jean-Paul Viguier a remporté dernièrement l’appel à projets d’Euratlantique avec Hyperion, première tour à ossature en bois réalisée en France (Bordeaux), haute de 57 mètres. La structure bois s’inscrit dans l’ADN de l’agence avec plusieurs réalisations à venir comme l’hôtel Jo & Joe à Gentilly entièrement en CLT.
Récemment l’agence compte à son actif l’immeuble Season, premier bâtiment de bureaux sans air conditionné, la reconstruction du site du Heysel à Bruxelles, les futurs sièges d’Orange à Issy-les-Moulineaux et du Pôle fiduciaire de la Banque de France à La Courneuve.

Une série de projets majeurs ont permis à l’agence de pousser l’enveloppe en matière de développement durable, intégrant sans cesse des principes bio-adaptifs innovants. Les sièges du Groupe Chèque Déjeuner, (lauréate du MIPIM award en 2011), le siège de Thales Communications and Security, et le siège d’Air France comptent parmi les projets exemplaires. Avec la livraison de l’opération Opalia, la plus grande opération tertiaire en bois massif de France, le cabinet relève le défi de rendre l’acte de construire toujours plus biomimétique et plus humain.

Andrew Waugh

Andrew is a founding Director of Waugh Thistleton a world leading architecture practice in the use of cross-laminated timber. Over the last 18 years Andrew has worked on award winning schemes from cinemas to synagogues, social housing to shopping centres. Andrew is a dedicated advocate of timber construction having been responsible for the pioneering Stadhaus, a nine storey timber residential tower. He continues to encourage his clients to look at the feasibility and benefits of sustainable design and construction in their schemes. In 2010 Andrew was awarded the RIBA president’s medal for research for his work on the feasibility and practice of timber structures for high rise buildings. He continues to research from within the practice and lectures across the world with a focus on sustainability, timber construction and the future of architecture.

Après 5 années passées dans un établissement financier, la Sovac, Dominique Weber, titulaire d’un DESS Banque et Finance, a rejoint l’entreprise familiale en 1990 comme co-gérant de Weber Finance, aux côtés de son frère Stéphane. Il assume alors le pilotage financier du groupe.
L’entreprise familiale , spécialisée dans le mobilier en Kit (Bois et Bois reconstitué)couvre le domaine de la Cuisine et de la salle de bain ainsi que la literie. Elle occupe 235 personnes en France pour un Chiffre d’affaire de 70 millions d’euros. Après avoir occupé plusieurs mandats régionaux pour le compte de la branche professionnelle, Dominique Weber accède en 2014 à la Présidence de l’UNIFA, au sein de laquelle il lance le projet sectoriel « Ambitions 2016-2021 ” de l’Ameublement français.
Vice-Président d’Adivbois, il co-pilote le Plan Industriel Bois, visant à promouvoir la construction Grande Hauteur en Bois et son aménagement. Il préside également le CODEM (Comité de Défense de l’Equipement de la maison).
Suite à son élection en tant que Président de FBIE, Dominique Weber s’est inscrit dans la continuité de la mandature précédente quant à sa collaboration avec l’amont et l’importance du lobbying exercé par FBIE, relatif à la défense de la filière aval. Ce lobbying auprès des acteurs publics et institutionnels doit être poursuivi. Dominique Weber a souhaité également mettre en lumière certaines de ses priorités pour FBIE. Celles-ci concernent l’innovation de produit et de process, la conquête de nouveaux marchés pour le bois et l’importance de la question environnementale.
